Road charges in Slovenia
Yes. Slovenian motorways and expressways require an e-vinjeta for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, including foreign-registered ones. It is digital and linked to your licence plate.
There is no 1-day option. The shortest Slovenian e‑vignette is 7 days, which matters if you are only transiting the country.
For vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, use DARS's official vehicle lookup to confirm class 2A or 2B. A motorhome qualifies for 2A regardless of front axle height only if its living equipment is fixed and permanent and its approved conversion is recorded in the vehicle documents. Registration alone or removable equipment is not enough.

We sell class 2A and motorcycle e‑vignettes. Class 2B is not yet available through our service. Use DARS's official vehicle lookup to confirm whether a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes is class 2A or 2B. Motorhomes qualify for class 2A regardless of front axle height only when their living equipment is fixed and permanent and the approved conversion is recorded in the vehicle documents. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes use the separate distance-based DarsGo system.

What is the fine for driving without an e-vinjeta?
300 euro. Using a tolled road without a valid e-vinjeta is an offence under the Road Tolling Act, and the amount is fixed rather than scaled to the distance you drove: one junction costs what a fortnight of driving costs (DARS, checked 29 August 2026). Buy before the border rather than after it.
I bought one for the wrong plate. Can it be moved?
No. A Slovenian e‑vignette cannot be transferred to another registration number, and if the number held in the system is not the number on the car, the toll counts as unpaid however much you paid. Buy a second one for the correct plate, then ask DARS for a proportional refund of the first, less a 6 euro fee. Weekly and monthly e‑vignettes are excluded from that refund entirely (DARS, checked 29 August 2026).
Is the Karawanks tunnel covered by the e‑vignette?
No. The Karavanke tunnel from Austria sits outside the e‑vignette, and every crossing in a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes is paid separately at the Hrušica toll booth: 9 euro for a car (DARS, checked 29 August 2026). Budget for it in both directions if you are coming down from Villach.
I am only crossing for an hour. What should I buy?
The 7-day e‑vignette, because nothing shorter exists: an hour on a Slovenian motorway costs what a week of them costs. The alternative is to stay off the tolled network altogether, since the charge applies to motorways and expressways only and the parallel main roads are free. Expect that to add a good deal of time to a transit.
How far ahead can I buy an e-vinjeta?
Up to 30 days. The start date can be set to any day within 30 days of the purchase (DARS, checked 29 August 2026), so a trip a month away can be paid for now and a summer holiday booked in spring cannot. Note the date you choose, because that is the day the clock starts whether you travel or not.
Do motorcycles need their own e-vinjeta?
Yes. A motorcycle is class 1 and needs an e‑vignette of its own; a car e‑vignette in the same household does not cover the bike. The shortest option is the same 7 days as for cars, and there is no monthly product for riders. The step above a week is a 6-month e‑vignette, which covers a full riding season.
