Poland and Croatia charge tolls on the road instead of a vignette.
The drive
Three vignettes on the fastest route, Czech, Austrian and Slovenian, with a Polish toll before them and Croatian barriers after. The Polish one is the A4 between Kraków and Katowice, a private concession paid as you drive. The eastern alternative, through Slovakia and Hungary to the Croatian border at Goričan, needs two vignettes instead of three, Slovak and Hungarian; which works out cheaper depends on how many days each one has to cover.
