The Austrian e‑vignette
Yes. You need an e‑vignette to drive on Austrian motorways and expressways. It applies to every vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes, including foreign-registered cars, motorhomes and motorcycles. Driving without one risks an on-the-spot substitute toll.
Austria issues a digital e‑vignette, linked to your licence plate. There is no sticker to attach and nothing to collect: enforcement cameras read the plate. That is why the plate you give us has to be exactly right.

How do I buy this e‑vignette online?
Pick the length you need, then confirm the licence plate and the country the car is registered in: Austria's four lengths run from a single day to a full year. Pay by card and we register the e‑vignette with ASFINAG. We only confirm it is active once that registration is done, never before.
Which of the four lengths should I choose?
Take the 1-day for a single crossing, the 10-day for a typical holiday, and the 2-month or annual for a longer stay or repeat trips across the year. Every length is offered from every Austrian duration page, so switching before you pay costs nothing but a click.
How far ahead can I buy the 1-day or 10-day e‑vignette?
As far ahead as you like: only the 2-month and annual carry Austria's 18-day withdrawal wait (ASFINAG, checked 19 August 2026). Buy the 1-day or 10-day any time before you travel and set the start date you actually need; nothing about the price or the plate changes by buying early.
What happens if I need a longer period than I first bought?
Buy the extra period as a second e‑vignette rather than trying to change the first: Austria has no upgrade path from a shorter length to a longer one. Two 10-day e‑vignettes covering consecutive periods work exactly like one 2-month e‑vignette would, just billed as two separate orders.
