Driving to Serfaus: the Landeck tunnel, the B180 and the village driving ban
What do I need to drive to Serfaus, and can I drive into the village?
A vignette, and yes if you are staying the night. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis says outright that a valid vignette is required to drive through the Landeck Tunnel, which sits on the ordinary A12 and carries no extra section toll. The whole village is a Begegnungszone where private car traffic is generally banned, but overnight guests are explicitly exempt and may drive to their accommodation by the shortest route at any hour.
The tunnel needs a vignette and nothing else
Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis states it on its own page: a valid vignette is required to drive through the Landeck Tunnel. The tunnel is part of the A12 Inntal Autobahn and is not one of ASFINAG's six section-toll routes, so the ordinary vignette covers it and nothing is payable at the portal.
The practical consequence is that the whole drive is settled by one purchase. A 10-day vignette started on your outward date covers the tunnel in both directions for a normal week; anything longer is worth checking against the full list of Austrian vignettes before you buy.
The village is a Begegnungszone all year, and guests are exempt
Serfaus's municipal traffic order makes the entire village area, Dorfbahnstraße included, a year-round Begegnungszone: a 20 km/h shared space with pedestrian priority in which private car traffic is generally banned.
Overnight guests are named in the order as exempt and may drive by the shortest route to their accommodation at any time. The exemption is written around that shortest route: it gets you to the door and back out again. A day visitor is not among the exemptions the order names.
Three approaches, one junction
The resort's arrival page gives routes from Germany and the Netherlands over the Fernpass, taking the A7 and A95 onto the B179; through Kufstein and Innsbruck on the A12; or by Lindau and Bregenz on the A96 and A14.
All three come together at the Oberinntal junction. From there the route runs through the Landeck Tunnel and onto the B180, leaving at the Ried im Oberinntal exit for Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis.
The tunnel works have already moved once
ASFINAG's own release, which we read on 8 September 2026, said that from mid-April 2026 traffic would be diverted through Zams and Landeck during night hours for about six months, with the Landeck Tunnel open by day, and that the first full closure would begin in autumn 2026 as part of safety works running through to 2030.
Both of those dates have now arrived, and the schedule has changed before: a full closure planned for spring 2026 was cancelled when the renovation concept was reworked.
