Germany to Romania by car: the e‑vignettes for each way there
Germany charges a car nothing, and Romania's rovinieta is needed from the border on every national road, not only the motorways. In between you cross either Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary or Austria and Hungary, and that choice decides whether you buy four e‑vignettes or three.

The drive
Four e‑vignettes, the most of any way from Germany, on the direct line from Berlin, Saxony or Thuringia towards Arad, Timișoara and Sibiu. Hungary is crossed from end to end, on the M1 to the Budapest ring, the M5 south and the M43 past Szeged to Nădlac, so its e-matrica has to cover the day you cross going out and the day you cross coming home.
Through Austria and Hungary
€66.74
Via Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest, Szeged and Arad. You need 3 e‑vignettes, Austrian, Hungarian and Romanian.

The drive
Three e‑vignettes, Austrian, Hungarian and Romanian, on the usual way down from Munich, Stuttgart and the south of Germany; from Frankfurt or Cologne the A3 joins it at Passau. The Hungarian M43 meets Romania's A1 at Nădlac, so you change e‑vignette without leaving the motorway. Drivers heading for Oradea or Cluj-Napoca take the M4 from Budapest to the Borș crossing instead, on the same three e‑vignettes.
Costed for a return trip that leaves one day and comes back 7 days later, so the destination is covered for all 8 calendar days and every country on the way is crossed twice. A longer stay moves a country to a longer e‑vignette and changes the total: the planner works out your own dates.
