The drive
A driver who makes this trip several times a year has a Hungarian option that is new for 2026: an annual M1 regional e-vignette, valid on the whole tolled motorway network of Győr-Moson-Sopron, Komárom-Esztergom, Fejér and Pest counties, which takes in the M1 from Hegyeshalom into Budapest (Nemzeti Útdíjfizetési Szolgáltató, checked 24 September 2026). It suits Budapest and nothing beyond it; for Lake Balaton or the south, the national e-matrica is still the one to buy.
