Rovinieta prices 2026 by Euro class: the official car tariff in lei
How much does the Romanian rovinieta cost for a car in 2026?
From 1 October 2026 a car rovinieta costs between 20 and 29 lei for 1 day and between 228 and 330 lei for 12 months, including VAT. The price depends on the car's Euro class: electric is cheapest, then Euro 6, then Euro 4 and 5, then Euro 0 to 3. These levels are set by Order 888/2026 and apply to every rovinieta whose validity starts on or after 1 October 2026 (checked 5 October 2026).
The official car tariff, by Euro class
These are the levels in the annex to Order 888/2026 for category A, a passenger vehicle with at most 9 seats including the driver. All amounts are in lei, including VAT. The authorised distributor's live tariff for cars returned the same amounts on 5 October 2026.
Find the class on the registration certificate before choosing a row. The guide to finding your car's Euro class shows where it is and why a car with no stated class pays the top row.
Not sure which row is yours? Our Euro class checker reads the code in field V.9, or estimates the class from the date of first registration.
- Electric: 20 lei for 1 day, 27 for 10 days, 43 for 30 days, 68 for 60 days, 228 for 12 months.
- Euro 6: 22 lei for 1 day, 30 for 10 days, 48 for 30 days, 76 for 60 days, 254 for 12 months.
- Euro 4 and Euro 5: 26 lei for 1 day, 35 for 10 days, 55 for 30 days, 87 for 60 days, 292 for 12 months.
- Euro 0 to Euro 3, and any car whose class cannot be shown: 29 lei for 1 day, 39 for 10 days, 62 for 30 days, 99 for 60 days, 330 for 12 months.
Exactly how long each period lasts
Each period counts calendar days, not 24-hour blocks. The order defines them: 1 day is the date paid for; 10, 30 and 60 days are the start date plus the following 9, 29 or 59 days; 12 months runs from the start date to the day before the same date a year later.
Validity starts at 00:00 on the first day and ends at 24:00 on the last. If you buy for today, it starts at the moment the purchase is registered in CNAIR's database, not at midnight (Law 226/2023, article 6).
Law 226/2023 also caps the short periods against the annual price: 1 day at no more than 9% of it, 10 days at 12%, 30 days at 19% and 60 days at 30% (article 5). Pick the shortest period that covers every day the car will be on a national road.
What changed on 1 October 2026
The car price now depends on three things: the vehicle category, its Euro emissions class and the period (Law 226/2023, article 4). The amount is set in lei (article 8). The order's levels apply to rovinietas whose validity starts on or after 1 October 2026; one bought earlier for a car stays valid until it ends.
This page does not republish the pre-October car prices, because this review found no current official source for them. The guide to the rovinieta from 1 October 2026 covers what the change means for a car already on the road.
Vans, minibuses and coaches pay their own rows
A goods vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes is category B, at 46 to 67 lei for 1 day and 521 to 752 lei for 12 months, by the same four Euro levels. Minibuses with more than 9 and at most 23 seats are category C, and larger coaches category D (Order 888/2026).
Goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes left the rovinieta on 1 October and pay the distance-based TollRo instead. The TollRo guide for trucks over 3.5 tonnes sets out those rates.
The next change is on 1 January
Order 888/2026 indexes the tariff every year. The ministry recalculates it by 31 December from the consumer price index for October to September, rounds it down to the whole leu, and the new level applies from 1 January (articles 2 and 3).
The level that counts is the one in force on the start date, and you can buy up to 30 days ahead (Law 226/2023, article 5). For a trip starting in January 2027, check the price again after the new year's level is published.
Euro amounts, and what we charge
The official price is set in lei. The law names one place to pay in another currency: CNAIR's offices at Romanian border crossings, at the European Central Bank's rate for 1 October, used from the following 1 January (Law 226/2023, article 8). Any other euro figure is a seller's own conversion.
You can buy at the official lei price from CNAIR's portal or an authorised distributor. We sell the same rovinieta with a service fee added; our Romanian rovinieta price page shows the total for each class and period before you pay.
