Everything clear before you set off

Via Cologne, Karlsruhe, Basel, Lucerne, the Gotthard road tunnel and Chiasso.

You need 1 e‑vignette, Swiss.

€60.87

Italy has no e‑vignette: its motorway tolls are paid at the toll booth, and we do not sell those.

Costed for a return trip that leaves one day and comes back 7 days later, so the destination is covered for all 8 calendar days and every country on the way is crossed twice. A longer stay moves a country to a longer e‑vignette and changes the total: the planner works out your own dates.

The countries you cross, in order

  • the Netherlands

No vignette and no motorway tolls for cars. The Westerschelde tunnel charges separately.

  • Germany

No vignette and no motorway tolls for cars.

  • Switzerland

annual e‑vignette, covering the 2 days you are in the country

  • Italy

Motorway tolls are charged per section and paid at toll stations or by transponder.

The drive

The Gotthard road tunnel charges nothing extra. It is part of the Swiss motorway network, so the e‑vignette on the windscreen is the whole payment for it, which is what makes this the cheapest of the Alpine crossings for a car. The Swiss tolls that do exist are elsewhere: the Great St Bernard tunnel and the car-carrying rail shuttles, neither of them on this route.
