The Swiss motorway e‑vignette

Yes. You need an e‑vignette to use Swiss motorways, and Switzerland sells exactly one: an annual e‑vignette. There is no daily, weekly or monthly option, so a single day on a Swiss motorway costs the same as a full year.

It is now electronic and linked to your licence plate. Motorcycles pay the same price as cars, and the e‑vignette also applies to trailers.

Switzerland prices in Swiss francs. We show the official franc price alongside the euro amount we charge.

Questions drivers ask

How do I buy this e‑vignette online?

Confirm your licence plate and registration country. Switzerland sells one length only, the annual e‑vignette, so there is no duration to pick. Pay by card and we register it with the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security. We only confirm it is active once that registration is done, never before.

Do I get to choose how long the e‑vignette lasts?

No. Switzerland sells a single annual e‑vignette rather than a range of lengths, so there is nothing to compare on this page beyond the one option. It runs for the e‑vignette year regardless of when in that year you happen to buy it.

When does the e‑vignette year actually run?

From 1 December of the preceding year to 31 January of the following one, a full fourteen months rather than twelve. Buy in early December and you get almost the whole window; buy in November and you are paying for the year that is about to start rather than the one ending.

Can I buy now for a trip next year?

Yes, but check which e‑vignette year you need first. The e‑vignette is tied to the plate for one Swiss e‑vignette year at a time, so buying today covers the year running now; if your trip falls after 1 December, wait and buy the next e‑vignette year instead.
