Do rental cars need a Czech vignette?

Czech e-vignettes belong to a licence plate and country of registration, not to the driver. The official eDálnice checker shows whether that exact vehicle is covered and until when, including foreign-registered hire cars.

Ask the rental desk what is included, then verify the answer against the plate on the car. Do not rely on a windscreen sticker because the Czech system is electronic.

For a standard-rate vehicle, choose a Czech vignette option that covers the motorway dates in the rental. You need the registration country, plate, fuel type and chosen start date, all of which eDálnice asks for in its official buying flow (checked 31 August 2026).

Use eDálnice instead if the hire car qualifies for a reduced eco rate or an exemption. toll.one does not process either, and a foreign electric or hydrogen vehicle must have its exemption recorded before it uses a charged road.

Enter the characters shown on the vehicle itself. A booking email can use spaces or formatting that the physical plate does not, so compare the final confirmation with the car before driving.

You cannot move an e-vignette to your own car when the rental ends. Czech payment terms keep it with the vehicle recorded in the register, even when the owner or driver changes.

Return the car without trying to cancel or transfer the record. Save the confirmation only until the rental company has accepted the vehicle back.
