Driving through Bulgaria to Turkey or Greece: what you pay
What do you pay to drive through Bulgaria on the way to Turkey or Greece?
One e-vinetka covers the whole transit, on the motorways and on the first-class roads that fill the gaps between them. The Danube bridges from Romania are charged on top of it, and a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes pays distance travelled instead.
The corridor to Turkey is motorway almost end to end
A driver entering from Serbia at Kalotina reaches the Turkish border at Kapitan Andreevo on the A6 to Sofia, the A1 towards Plovdiv and the A4 from there to the crossing. The A6 opened along its length in 2025 and the A4 has run continuously since 2015.
One e-vinetka covers all of it, whatever the road numbers change to on the way. There is no separate motorway ticket and no per-section charge on this route.
Buy the 1-day product when you cross Bulgaria in a day, and the 7-day when you break the journey or return within the week.
The road to Greece still drops off the motorway
The A3 towards the Greek crossing at Kulata is not continuous: traffic leaves it for the I-1 through the Kresna gorge, a single-carriageway first-class road. Work on a bypass outside the gorge began on 27 November 2025, and the regional ministry has spoken of completion by the end of 2027.
That gap changes the driving and not the charge. The gorge road belongs to the republican network, so the e-vinetka is required on it exactly as on the motorway either side.
Allow extra time for the gorge in summer, and do not treat leaving the motorway as leaving the charge.
Arriving from Romania costs extra at the bridge
The two Danube bridges, Ruse to Giurgiu and Vidin to Calafat, carry a toll of their own that the e-vinetka does not include. It is charged in the direction leaving Bulgaria, at 6.00 euro for a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes.
Pay it at the bridge and budget for it apart from the vignette. A driver holding an e-vinetka has not paid the bridge, and the two are collected under different arrangements.
Over 3.5 tonnes is a different system
A van, lorry or towing combination above 3.5 tonnes is on the distance-based toll rather than the vignette, with the single exception of a category M1 camper, which pays the vignette whatever it weighs. Nothing in our range covers a vehicle on the distance toll.
Check the registration document before you buy, and when the vehicle is under the limit, pick the e-vinetka period that covers your travelling days.
