Yes. You need a vignette to use Swiss motorways, and Switzerland sells exactly one: an annual e-vignette. There is no daily, weekly or monthly option, so a single day on a Swiss motorway costs the same as a full year.

The vignette covers the motorway network. Some Alpine tunnels (the Great St Bernard among them) charge separately, and car-carrying rail shuttles such as the Furka and Lötschberg are always paid at the terminal.
Yes. A trailer is charged in its own right, so a car towing a caravan needs two vignettes at CHF 40 each. The exceptions are a trailer behind a motorbike, and anything heavy enough to fall under the lorry charge instead (Federal Office for Customs and Border Security, checked 29 August 2026). Buy the second one before you reach the border, not at it.

A foreign-registered car is treated exactly as a Swiss one. There is no cheaper legal option to fall back on, which is why a single crossing still costs CHF 40.
Within a short window, yes. A foreign plate entered wrongly can be corrected within 24 hours of purchase; a Swiss plate can be corrected once, immediately after buying (Federal Office for Customs and Border Security, checked 29 August 2026). After that the record stays with the characters you entered, so read the confirmation the moment it arrives rather than on the morning you travel.
No. The Swiss e-vignette is registered to the number plate rather than to the vehicle, so a different car carrying the same plate is covered and there is nothing to do. If the car and the plate both change, the vignette cannot be moved across. A plate change after a house move or a lost plate can be transferred in the official webshop against the paperwork.
Not for price or validity: both cost CHF 40 and cover the same period. The difference is physical. A sticker counts only once it is affixed to the windscreen, so one carried in the glovebox or held against the glass at a check is not a paid vignette. The e-vignette is a record against your plate and there is nothing to display.
Yes, if it weighs up to 3.5 tonnes: it counts as a motor vehicle and pays the same CHF 40 as a car. Above that weight it falls under the lorry charge rather than the vignette. Weight is the only test Switzerland applies here, which is worth knowing if you have met Slovenia's height rule and expect the same question.
On any green-signed motorway or expressway, yes, and the annual is the only length sold whether you cross once or all season. Some valleys are reachable on cantonal roads that carry no charge at all, and a few resorts cannot be driven into: Zermatt ends at Täsch, Wengen and Mürren at Lauterbrunnen. Check the last stage of your route before you buy anything.
