The Romanian rovinieta

Yes. The rovinieta is required on most Romanian national roads, not only motorways, which makes it easy to need one without realising. It is electronic and linked to your licence plate.

Romania offers an unusually wide range of periods, including a 60-day option that sits between the monthly and annual products.

Note that the Danube bridges at Fetești-Cernavodă and Giurgiu charge a separate toll that the rovinieta does not cover.

How do I buy this vignette online?

Confirm the licence plate and registration country, choose one of Romania's five lengths, and give us your billing address and, for anything longer than the 1-day, the vehicle's chassis number. Pay by card and we arrange the purchase with CNAIR; we only confirm it is active once that is done.

Why do you need the chassis number as well as the plate?

Because every Romanian rovinieta except the 1-day registers the vehicle by its chassis number, not only its plate, and the reseller we buy from will not process the purchase without it. Have the VIN, shown as field E on the registration document, ready before you start.

Can I buy now and set a later start date?

Yes. Every Romanian length runs from a start date you choose at checkout rather than from the moment you pay, so you can buy today for a trip beginning later. Set the date you actually need: the rovinieta and the VIN registration both take effect from that day.

Does the length I choose change what checkout asks for?

Only the chassis number. The 1-day rovinieta is sold on the plate alone, but every longer length, from the 10-day up to the annual, also registers the vehicle by VIN, so checkout asks for it as soon as you pick anything longer than a single day.
