Because Switzerland has no short-stay option, the annual vignette is the only legal way to use a Swiss motorway. It runs from 1 December of the preceding year to 31 January of the following year, so buying early gives you fourteen months of use. If you are only crossing Switzerland once, it is worth checking whether a non-motorway route suits you better.
The vignette covers the motorway network. Some Alpine tunnels (the Great St Bernard among them) charge separately, and car-carrying rail shuttles such as the Furka and Lötschberg are always paid at the terminal.
Confirm your licence plate and registration country. Switzerland sells one length only, the annual vignette, so there is no duration to pick. Pay by card and we register it with the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security. We only confirm it is active once that registration is done, never before.
